NIT Surathkal

Formerly called Karnataka Regional Engineering College, Surathkal, was formed by the joint efforts of the State and Central Government. The institute is now popularly known as National Institute of Technology, Surathkal (NIT). The institute was formed by U.Srinivas Mallya and V.S Kudva and is affiliated the Mysore University.

The institute was formed by U.Srinivas Mallya and V.S Kudva and is affiliated the Mysore University. Earlier it had only undergraduate courses but within a year of its establishment it started with post graduate courses too. The institute is awarded the stature of a Deemed University by UGC and is now counted among the pioneer institutes of engineering in India. The alumni of NIT, Karnataka are well established today and students take inspiration from them. Year by year all students get placed into highly esteemed organisations.

Campus of NIT, Surathkal

NIT is situated in Surathkal, a suburban area of Mangalore, Karnataka. The institute is located near some tourist spots like a few beaches and the famous Udupi Temple. The campus stretches over 295 acres of land with natural beauty in and around the campus. The campus has 12 students’ hostels; 10 for undergraduate course studying boys, 1 for post graduation pursuing boys and 1 for girls. Each hostel has its separate mess. The social life at NIT, Karnataka is quite active and different cultural programs and functions keep happening all the year. So there is an availability of recreation areas in the campus too.

Admission at NITK

Admission into under-graduation course (B.Tech) is based on the AIEEE score and in post graduation (M.Tech) through GATE scores. The academic year at NIT, Surathkal starts in the month of August and lasts till May. Students from financially not so strong background are given scholarships and a part of fee is waived according to the norms of NITs.
