The campus starts with 3 halls called the Patel, Azad and Nehru halls which are among the total of 8 boys’ hostels for studying undergraduate courses. For girls enrolled in undergraduate course 2 hostels have been built. There are 2 more hostels for the postgraduate course-studying girls among other buildings for postgraduate boys’ hostels.

There are 2 gigantic sports complexes called the ‘Tata sports complex’ and the ‘Jnan Ghosh’ stadium. An amphitheatre too is present in the campus called the ‘Tagore Open Air Theatre’. Here all the cultural programs and festivals are organised. They also have centres at Kolkata and Bhubhaneshwar for different distance learning programs. The campus has a library with 6 halls which is one of the largest in the country. The campus also has a technical museum called the ‘Nehru Museum of Science and Technology’.

Separate boarding provision has been given to the students from defence forces. Science Technology Entrepreneurs’ Park (STEP) has been constructed in the campus for the alumni who desire to start business but lack infrastructure. This is a special initiative by IIT-KGP which makes it all the more special and coveted. This institution is also known for providing scholarships to all the M.Tech students. 35% of undergraduate students with not-so-strong financial background are provided financial assistance by the institution. Organisational Functioning of IIT Bombay

A body called the ‘Board of Governors’ runs IIT-B. For all the academic affairs, the ‘Senate’, nominated by the Council is responsible and accountable. The Senate is made up of a few selected professors. The chairman elected by the Board of Governors is called the ‘Director’ of the institute. Beside this, the government of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat elect one technologist or industrialist to be a part of the authority. The director, deputy director and the dean is the authority to the functioning of the institute. The ‘Registrar’ is the authority to the administration department.

IIT Bombay Campus

IIT, Bombay campus stretches over 550 acres of land near Powai lake. History of IIT Kanpur

This institute was established by Parliament through an act. Initially, it was established in Harcourt Butler Technological Institute’s canteen building and later was shifted to where today at Grand Trunk Road, it stands proud. The very first director of this institute was Dr. P.K Kelkar, on whose name today the Central Library runs. A fact, known by a few, is that this institute was the first one to initiate and encourage computer science education. Prof. H.K. Kesavan was the initiator of an independent academic program of computer science. Since those times IIT Kanpur is known for contributing towards technological development.

IIT Kanpur Campus

The campus of IIT, Kanpur stretches over 4.3 square kilometres of land. It has the second largest campus among all IITs. The campus is known for having rear species of birds. There are total of 11 hostels in the campus. 9 are for boys and 2 are for girls. These hostels are called ‘The halls of Residence’. Halls 1-5 and 7-10 are for boys and GH-1 and GH-2 are for girls. There are many small libraries in the campus for every department apart from Dr P.K Kelkar library which is the main library in the campus covering a total of 6973 m2 as the floor area. Each year almost 4500 books are added in this 3-storey library building. There are many centres too in the campus. They are:

IIT Delhi Campus

The campus is over 1.3km2 of land in length. It is full of lush and velvet- like grass, fresh green trees and beautiful, lovely flowers. In the campus itself, faculties live with their families in compact, independent houses. The roads and lanes are clean and the campus looks completely eco-friendly. IIT, Delhi campus is a city in its own. The campus is in close proximity to JNU (Jawahar Lal University). It also has shops for buying groceries and vegetables for daily needs. Electricity back up is provided too with their own supply of water which is available 24/7. Separate hostel facility is also provided for both girls and boys.

Boarding and lodging facilities in IIT Delhi

The best part of the campus is that apartments have also been provided to the married students. The hostels have care-takers and wardens like any other hostel. The only difference being that the wardens are the faculties of the college itself. Few professors have been awarded the responsibilities of looking after each hostel. It has been clearly and mutually decided by both the faculties and the students residing in the hostels, that there shall be no interference of any wardens in the hostel-affairs and each year a ‘House Secretary’ is elected by the students for managing hostel matters. There are in total 13 representatives of the hostels.
